Be an Upstander: Holocaust Survivors Tell Their Story of Survival
Mr. and Mrs. Alan Zimm spoke to the sophomore class about the atrocities of the Holocaust. The main message they wanted the students to get was to be upstanders because kindness and love can destroy hate. Students asked insightful questions and wrote powerful letters thanking the speakers for coming.

The Governor's Office Visits
Mr. Felix Sarfo-Kantanka, Jr., Gov. McAuliffe's Deputy Secretary of Administration, spoke to the students about Virginia politics and choosing a career. He shared his successes and failures that he has encountered in his political career. The students also gained insight about Virginia's role as a swing state.

Local Writer Visits:
Blankman Inspires Creative Witing
Ms. Anne Blankman, the
author of the YA Prisoner of Night and Fog duology, Night's Edge and Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke, read passages aloud and described how she created her stories about World War II using imagery and characterization. She stressed the importance of researching to get accurate settings to give the reader a more fascinating story.
